Kedah & Perlis

Kedah and Perlis are two states in the northwest of Peninsula Malaysia. This is Malaysia’s rice growing area and the limestone outcrops are often surrounded by padi fields. The Langkawi Islands belong to the state of Kedah.
The caves of Gunung Keriang in Kedah are being plundered by crystal collectors and there is also talk of developing the caves for tourism.

Langkawi’s most famous cave is Gua Cerita –

Perlis is unique in the peninsula as it has both tower outcrops as well as a main range formed of limestone. The Chuping hills are all karst towers and many of the caves have been mined for guano. One of the most famous caves, which is in the main range, is Gua Kelam. See stamps page.
